Legends of Slots
Legends of Slots is one of those games you reach for when you've got a few minutes and don't want to think too hard. The core loop is simple: you spin a set of reels, match the symbols that line up, and that clears pieces off a little board tied to whatever theme the level has. It's closer to a match puzzle than anything else, dressed up with cartoon knights and dragons.
Controls are the easy part. One big tap starts a spin, and a swipe lets you lock or re-roll individual reels before they settle. We tested it on an older phone and a newer one, and the touch targets were generous enough that we never missed a tap, even one-handed on the bus. The settings menu is more thoughtful than I expected — you can turn off the screen shake, mute just the music while keeping sound effects, and drop the particle effects, which noticeably helped battery life.
On that note, battery was reasonable. About six percent in half an hour on our mid-range test device with effects dialled down. It never ran hot. The art is colourful without being noisy, and the short levels make it a good fit for picking up and putting down. If I had one gripe, it's that the later boards repeat their layouts a bit too often.
What we liked
- Dead-simple one-tap controls that work one-handed
- Genuinely useful settings for effects and sound
- Light on battery with the particle effects reduced
