Emberfall Chronicle
Emberfall Chronicle surprised me. I went in expecting the usual auto-battle filler and instead got a turn-based RPG with real decisions about who to bring into each fight. The writing is a cut above, too — characters remember what you said three chapters ago.
Combat uses a tap-and-hold system for skills, with a radial menu that fans out from your thumb. It takes maybe an hour to feel natural, after which it's quick and satisfying. The downside is the battery: with the graphics on high, this one chews through a charge and the phone warms up during longer dungeon runs. Dropping to medium settings fixed most of that.
If you like a game you can sink into for a proper session rather than a quick tap, this is the one on our list I'd point you to first.
What we liked
- Strong writing and party choices that matter
- Thumb-friendly radial skill menu
- Turn off high graphics to tame heat and drain
